FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Unleash Literacy.

Is this built by people with real intervention experience?
Yes. The platform is shaped by years of direct, in-person work with over 100 struggling readers across one-on-one and small-group settings. The digital lessons encode the teaching moves, pacing decisions, and review patterns that consistently worked in practice.
What is the difference between Beginner and Advanced?
Each learner can be set to Beginner or Advanced. Both tracks follow the same scope and sequence of objectives and skills. Advanced raises word and text complexity while keeping the same instructional progression, routines, and mastery expectations.
What age range is Unleash Literacy designed for?
Unleash Literacy is designed for learners in grades 2 and up through adult education. Content adapts to your child's actual skill level based on ongoing lesson performance, not just age.
How are objectives and weekly lessons organized?
The program progresses through 10 cumulative levels, with each objective focusing on a specific concept and a small set of target skills. A typical week centers on one objective (for example, short a) with 2 to 3 skills. Every objective includes Reading, Spelling, and Fluency lessons so learners practice decoding, encoding, and connected reading together.
What is the Orton-Gillingham approach?
Orton-Gillingham is a structured, multisensory method for teaching reading that was originally developed in the 1930s. It introduces phonics concepts in a specific, logical sequence and engages multiple senses — seeing, hearing, and touching — during every lesson. Its explicit, cumulative design closely aligns with core science-of-reading principles.
Does a learner need a dyslexia diagnosis to benefit?
No. While Unleash Literacy is built on methods proven effective for dyslexic learners, the structured literacy approach benefits all beginning and struggling readers. Many families use the platform without a formal diagnosis.
How much time per week should my learner spend on lessons?
Most learners do best with 20 to 30 minute sessions completed daily or every other day. Short, consistent routines improve retention and give enough repetition to build automaticity without overload.
Is Unleash Literacy a full reading instruction system or a supplement?
Unleash Literacy is a full literacy program that includes reading, phonetics, spelling, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and connected reading. Many families use it as their primary program, and others pair it with classroom instruction or private reading interventions.
How does mastery work?
Skills are marked acquired only after sufficient performance, not just exposure. Reading and spelling checkpoints drive pass or retry decisions, and unacquired skills remain in rotation with targeted review so learners do not advance with gaps.
How are multisensory tools used during lessons?
Lessons combine visual, auditory, and movement-based practice. Learners mark text patterns, map sounds to letters, tap sounds using keyboard-driven phonics tools, and speak responses for speech-graded feedback that includes transcription and sound-level scoring.
Do skills include instructional videos?
Yes. Skills include concise video instruction that models the exact sound or pattern, then learners complete parallel practice activities to apply that concept and demonstrate mastery.
Why use nonsense words?
Nonsense words prevent memorization and require true decoding, strengthening the sound-symbol pathways dyslexic learners need.
How does the program teach phonemic awareness?
Learners complete short, explicit routines to isolate, blend, segment, and manipulate phonemes before and during phonics instruction. This strengthens speech-sound awareness so decoding and spelling are built on a solid foundation.
How is Unleash Literacy aligned with the science of reading?
The instructional sequence follows evidence-based reading development: phonemic awareness and phonics first, then cumulative practice that builds accuracy, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Lessons are explicit, systematic, and adjusted using frequent performance data.
How does digital delivery compare with in-person intervention?
The instructional design mirrors routines proven effective in live intervention, but digital delivery adds flexibility, learner-controlled pacing, and stronger data capture. Families get clear progress visibility and insight into patterns that are harder to track consistently in traditional settings.
What devices does Unleash Literacy work on?
Unleash Literacy runs in any modern web browser on desktop or laptop.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can cancel anytime from your account settings page. Your access continues through the end of the current billing period, and your learner's progress data is saved if you decide to return later.
Do you offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. If you are not satisfied within the first 30 days of a paid plan, contact us for a full refund — no questions asked.
